Happy Halloween!

So my roommates and I decided that it was high time we hosted a party in our humble abode. This will be my third year in the same apartment and still we have not held a party, so we figured it was high time. And what better occasion to have a party than Halloween? and a costume party to boot.

So Allison and I did some planning and thought of the food and the drink menu. We also did a lot of cleaning up and a whole bunch of decorating. The apartment looked great. There were cobwebs and spiders (that was after we cleaned up haha) and we also hung orange and purple lights. We found some candy corn candles and cute Halloween themed tablecloths. We moved furniture, rearranged the appliances and created a mini little bar area in our kitchen.

As for food we made cupcakes and decorated them with candy corn. We also had the bright idea to make sugar cookies and frost them. We found cookie cutters in the shape of a pumpkin, a ghost, and a kitty cat. So I made the dough at around 4pm the day of the party, unfortunately I didn't read the recipe thoroughly and missed the part that said the dough should be refrigerated for 3 hours. Oh well, we made due, put the dough in the icebox for an hour and a half and then threw it in the freezer briefly. They came out great and everybody loved them, and Allison and I learned that you have to refrigerate sugar cookie dough, haha.

So I couldn't tell you all of this without some pictures of the grand event, so here it goes.

Dave and I did our best to play the part of bartender but I think we made better pilots

The guys were rocking the fake moustaches all night

Lets not forget the ladies, Princess Allison and Red Sox maniac Shannon

I decided to get in on the wig action and sported the blond look for a while

While you may be distracted by the amazing dance moves, check out the decor in the background

Check out that handsome couple, who is that Dave's with...oh wait it's just me

The boys really got into the Halloween spirit. We have a construction worker of sorts, Dr Erik Jackson, Mario, and Captain Dave

My favorite Regis girls made the party oh so good

and here is Dave at his finest....you can all make fun of him later

So we had a good night....ate lots of candy had lots of sugary treats and enough chips and salsa for an army.

I hope you all have just as much fun this Halloween, I want to see pictures of your costumes the next time I'm home!

Love you lots, and miss you bunches!

Wedding Weekend

This past weekend was a whirlwind. Dave and I celebrated his brother's wedding all over New Englad, well just Massachusetts and New Hampshire but hey there was a lot of traveling involved, and I wasn't even the one driving. (not because I didn't want to, but Dave has a standard, and I don't know how to drive it)

Friday I packed up all my stuff after work and Dave came to take me away for the weekend. I was worried I might forget something but luckily I remembered it all. I guess the dress was the biggie, and the camera! So back up to New Hampshire we went and met up with the rest of the gang (that being the Heffelfinger family).

Saturday was the big rehersal, we had to travel to Swampscott, MA and I got to watch the bridal party work through the ceremony. It was a big party, 6 bridesmaids and 7 ushers, and of course the bride and groom.

Here they are in all their glory. Picture courtesy of Dave's dad, another fine photographer (it runs in the family)

So the rehersal went rather smoothly and then we got to go have dinner. (I have to say that was my favorite part)The Heffelfingers treated us to a lovely seafood feast at a beautiful seaside restaurant. It was great, the bridal party got to mingle and relax before the big day and I got to meet everyone.

Back up to NH we went for a few hours of precious sleep. Then we had to get ready for the big day. Dave had a lot to do, being the best man and all. I got a preview of his toast and we gussied ourselves up to the best of our abilities.

So here are a few pictures from the big day, again courtesy of the ever so talented wedding photographer Steve Heffelfinger Sr. Don't you feel like you were there?

Here's the venue, not too shabby eh?

and the happy couple breathing a sigh of relief

And here is the proud family, first and foremost, Steve and Gisela the parents of the groom (The Heffs)

and their goofy sons, the groom and bestman (Steve Jr. and Dave)

Dave delivering his funny but ever so sweet toast to the new couple. Good job hun!

What would a wedding be without dancing? Dave and I demonstrating some of our best moves (you can laugh, it's ok)

some very happy couples, the new Mr. and Mrs. Heffelfinger (Steve and Elise)

now for everyone's favorite twosome Dave and Katherine (awww, goofballs)

I hope you all enjoyed the wedding, sorry I couldn't save you some cake, it was delicious!

Love you all!

Family Fun Time Extravaganza!

Hi all, sorry that I have been so lax with keeping up on this blog. I had no idea that people were so interested in little old me, haha.

Anyway I had a fantastic weekend and it was great to see you all!

Dave and I (well mostly Dave) put up a web page so you can see all the beautiful pictures of the cutest baby alive (Carson). I also posted a video of him, he's giggling and gurgling on the floor, I just can't get enough.

Here is the link so go check it out, see all your beautiful faces and spend some time with Carson on his adventures in Huntington.

Ok so I tried to use the "insert link" thing to make it easier for everybody but I can't seem to make it work. So for now I will type in the address, you can just copy and paste it into your browser and view away.

http://gallery.mac.com/heffledave#100038

Let me know if it works, it's my first time trying to post a link, so I can't promise you too much.

I will post more later now that I am aware of my faithful and awaiting fan base, just kidding. But I will definitely keep you more up to date on things going on in my life and the greater Brookline/Boston area.

Love you and can't wait to see you again!

Fencing Pictures!

So here is Toni in action at her last fencing regional in Wellesley this past April Fool's weekend.

Here she is being a good sport and smiling for the ref as well as the camera, and she didn't even know it.

Here she is moving like a cat, stealthy and quick the competition doesn't know what is in store for them.

And how could she not be agile and swift with kicks like these. Dave was in love with her shoelaces, I thought he might try to steal them when Toni wasn't looking, but then again she did have a sword and from what I saw she knows what she's doing with it.

Look at that lunge wow I think I would be split in two if I tried a move like that. Amazing this girl has got all the moves!
Great job Toni I"m so glad I got to see you in action I was so impressed!

So here is a preview for you all. Dave and I will be sure to bring more pictures with us this weekend. See you on Sunday!!!!!!!

Weekend Happenings

So I had a fun filled April Fool's weekend. It was jam packed with lots of exciting things, well at least it was jam packed and kept me busy. Monday appeared out of nowhwere and I'm still trying to figure out what happend to my days of rest and relaxation.

Friday night my roommates (Allison and Jason) and Dave and I all went bowling. There is this place in Quincy called Boston Bowl and while it is a little distance from Brookline the prices can't be beat. So we did some candlepin and had a good time at half the rate of any other bowling alley.

Saturday I spent the day doing some errands. I started off the day by getting a much needed hair cut, looks and feels so much better. I'm also going to color and highlight my hair soon...I'll show you all the results as soon as I get it done. So after getting my hair done I went about getting some household items, but simply couldn't resist buying a couple cute numbers for Carson. I got this adorble t-shirt with a cartoon tie on the front and 2 little hats and matching socks. I can't wait to meet that little boy!

Sunday I had a leisurely start to the day. Dave came and met me and we made some brunch, omeletes and bagels and chai tea mmmmmm! Then we hung around and got directions for our next adventure, Toni Lynn's fencing tournament. So we made our way to Wellesley which only took a half an hour from my house and was incredibly easy to find. I made Dave bring his good camera with the new zoom lens so we would be sure to get lots of great pictures (they are on there way Aunt Lynn). So we saw our first ever fencing match and boy it was so quick. I could hardly keep up with who got the point, but it certainly was interesting and I was happy to see my family!

Dave and I then went to the Cheesecake factory for a late lunch and somehow were surrounded by little babies, they were flanking us on either side of our table. Luckily they were quiet and incredibly cute. Our waiter however was too quiet, he hardly made it back to our table to take away our food and after waiting for seriously a half hour we asked for our check and got the cheesecake to go. Unfortunately we had taken a shuttle from the Chestnut Hill Mall parking lot to the Atrium mall where the restaurant was. Well do to the fact that our waiter took his sweet time we had missed the last shuttle of the day and while not very far of a walk it was impossible to cross four lanes of a highway. We ended up calling a cab which was literally a 2 min drive and $5. A little ridiculous but funny at the same time.

All in all the weekend was a good one I can't complain. And next week promises to be just as nice with Easter. Can't wait to see you all very soon!

And pictues will follow shortly, as soon as Dave gets them online.

Bruises and aches and pains oh my!

So I"m finally getting back to you all about my snowboarding adventure. Quite an adventure it was. So Dave and I finally made it to Wachusett Mt. on President's Day. Both of us had that Monday off from work and what better way to spend it than sending our bodies hurdling down a mountain?

Dave has a little more experience than I do, well he's been twice before, where as this was an entirely new experience for me.
I have to admit as we got closer to the mountain I got more nervous, I think by the last mile I was ready to fake an illness or injury to get out of it...but hey what doesn 't kill you makes you stronger right?

We rented all our gear, figured out how to put on our boots and bindings and what not and prepared for our first snowboarding lesson. It was an amusing sight...me, Dave, and a bunch of six and seven year olds ready to learn how to snowboard. I felt a little silly but oh well I wasn't going to attempt a pass down any hill without some instruction. It gets better, our "instructor" was all of fifteen years old. I almost have a decade on the kid, but he had 9 years of experience where as I had zilch. So our lesson consisted of learning how to stand up on the board, strapping both our feet into the board, and two turns which once you learn get you down the hill.

We each took turns practicing heel edges and toe edges, basically shifting your weight either backwards or forwards on the board, hopefully while you remain standing which allow you to turn in both directions. I fell after or during every single attempt at a turn, well before that I was falling just while trying to go in a straight line. The six and seven year olds were totally showing me up. I wanted to give up but thanks to my mom in this situation my stubborness and competitiveness reared their heads and wouldn't let me stop till I got the hang of it.

As our lesson ended I was still at a loss in terms of getting myself down the very tiny bunny hill in any way shape or form other than sliding on my butt or tumbling head over heels. But we were left on our own and Dave was determined to get us down the hill. He had no problem because he knew what he was doing...he excelled in our lesson, and that just made me want to get it even more, if nothing other than to make myself feel better.

We moved on to the next hill, from the bottom it looked completely intimidating..but put in perspective it was a tiny hill probably as steep as our driveway in Huntington. So after a couple hours of practicing toe edges and heel edges I actually made it down at least halfway down the hill without falling. I was proud and felt rather accomplished. We went further and further up the hill as far as our courage would allow us. By the end of the day I was happy with my improvements and had the aches and bruises to show for them.

It was a fun day it of course got better as my skills improved. Nothing is really that fun when you are horrible at it. But I can see that if I practiced more I could at least become somewhat proficient in navigating my way down a hill or two. I think I'll try it again for sure once my bruises are gone that is.

So I 'll add some pictures for you guys when I get them from Dave, I would put some up of my bruises but they are concentrated on my butt so I don't think you want to see that.

Hope you are all enjoying the winter as much as I am...what winter sport should I try next? any suggestions?

Talk to you all soon and love you lots!

Winter Sports

So I've been wanting to post this entry for a while but I'm still learning the ins and out of this blog thing...I had all these pictures that I wanted to share from my weekend but was having a hard time getting them to post.

Anyway here they are at last ...and here is a recap of my weekend...well a while ago now but still thought I'd share. All of these events seem like a lifetime ago but they were fun so I don't mind reliving them once again.

So Friday was a pretty quiet, Allison and I stayed in the apartment and had a girls night in (sans the guys) which was a nice change of pace. We didn't do much really just talked a lot, ate some candy and watched some really cheesy TV. It was a nice way to begin the weekend, relaxing and therapeutic. Saturday was a little hum-drum but I can't complain I got some chores and errands done and didn't have anything stressful to take care of. Sunday was a great day! My parents decided to come spend the afternoon with me and I hadn't seen them in a while so it was good to catch up. They met Allison after over 5 years, so that's good. We had a lovely lunch at Vinny T's where we dined on some delicious Italian cuisine. And there were plenty of left overs so I didn't have to cook for a while, THANKS GUYS!

Monday I took a vacation day and got to spend some time with Dave. I hadn't seen him in a week so it was nice to spend a whole day together, our schedules usually only allow us an evening here or there. So we spent the day doing some fun winter activities....like ice skating on the frog pond! We had gone one time earlier this winter but it wasn't exactly a success. This time around I really got the hang of things. Going during the day made for a much easier time I didn't have to worry about running into people or falling because I had plenty of time and space to do so. It was a rough start and I didn't want to let go of Dave's arm but once I did, I found my balance I was eager to go.

Here I am probably just before I fell...but hey you can't tell from the picture can you?
Dave had me laughing so much I thought I might tumble, but I held it together..well at least that time.

Here I am looking like a pro...winter Olympics here I come...ha ha.
So we spent a few hours out there on the ice...I think I found my "ice legs" if there is such a thing. Regardless I had a lot of fun and that's all that really matters.
This coming weekend I"m going to be trying my hand at another winter sport, snowboarding. I'm a little nervous, but Dave and I are going to take a lesson so it shouldn't be too hazardous at least that's what I keep telling myself. Don't worry Mom I promise to be safe and maybe I'll really like it and become a pro at that too. I doubt it but I am definitely willing to give it a try. We even convinced Allison to give it a whirl.
So I'll have to tell you how it goes...I'm sure it will be a little bumpy at first to say the least, hopefully the bumps will mostly be on the mountain and not on me.
love you all and give you an update soon!
